Draw Lines Using the Keyboard

There are a couple of ways to quickly draw straight lines across a page in Word using the keyboard.

  1. Use a dash "-" three times. Hit Enter. AutoCorrect will replace three dashes with a line across the page.
  2. Use an underscore "_" three times. Hit Enter. Again, AutoCorrect will replace three underscores with a line, but it will be thicker than the 'three dashes' line.
  3. Use a hashtag "#" three times. Hit Enter. AutoCorrect will replace three hashtags with a fancier version of a line across the page.

You can even try this with other characters, like:

  • tilde
  • equals
  • asterisk
